Dustdevis Defeat St. Mary’s in Series Finale Behind Lint’s Complete Game Shutout

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 24, 2018) – Melanie Lint pitched her first career complete game shutout as the Dustdevils of Texas A&M International University defeated St. Mary's 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the series finale. Lint held the Rattlers to three hits and Maddison Schofield drove in the games lone run in the top of the fourth as the Dustdevils ended a five-game losing streak to StMU. With the win, the Dustdevils improve to 13-24 on the season and 10-9 in conference play.
 
The Dustdevils return home for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 27, against Lubbock Christian. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. Links for live stats and video can be found on the softball schedule page at GoDustdevils.com.
 
TAMIU 1, St. Mary's 0
After being held hitless for the first three innings of the game, TAMIU finally got to StMU's Staci Johns when Cassie Cannon singled to led off the fourth inning. Following a sacrifice bunt from Melanie Gamboa, Cannon would come around to score on a Schofield single giving the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead.
 
The Rattlers loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with two outs but Lint hunkered down and got Kristal Salinas to fly out to center to end the threat. TAMIU came close to adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh following a leadoff double by Maya Paul but a nice play by StMU's Raynelle Nash ended any threat.
 
Lint (6-7) becomes the 12th player in program history to throw a complete game shutout allowing no runs on three hits and two walks on 103 pitches.
