Box Score AUSTIN, Texas (January 7, 2017) - The Texas A&M International University Men's Basketball team continued play on the road with a matchup against St. Edward's on Saturday. The Dustdevils were dealt a 73-83 loss, moving to 10-6 overall (4-2 Heartland Conference).

First Half:
A high-scoring first half saw the Dustdevils and Hilltoppers combine for 75 points. The teams would trade leads five times in the first 20 minutes of action with SEU taking the largest lead at five. TAMIU would take back the lead with just under two minutes remaining on a Jeremy Wright three-point basket. A pair of HIlltopper free-throws were matched by a Deveino McRae layup with :55 left in play, putting the Dustdevils ahead 39-36. 

Second Half:
The Dustdevil defense was unable to hold the Hilltoppers at bay in the second half of play. SEU put up 47 second-half points to open a 10 point lead. The Dustdevils were held to 34 points in the final 20 minutes of action. A 6-0 Hilltopper run allowed SEU to take the lead with 14:20 left in regulation. TAMIU brought the game within six points at the five minute mark. Late fouls would allow the Hilltoppers to push the lead back to 10, leading to the eventual final score of 73-83. 

Denzel Bellot and Jordan VanDeKop each scored 17 points for the Dustdevils, VanDeKop added six rebounds. Arthur Santanna picked up a team high eight boards, adding seven points in the effort. 

Coaches Corner:
Head Coach Bryan Weakley commented after the game, "We fought hard in this game. When Bunja was injured in the first half it really hurt that it took away one of our inside presences. Hopefully we are fully healed when we play next week."

The Dustdevils will play their next game on Saturday, January 14 in San Antonio, Texas. TAMIU will take on St. Mary's University with tip-off slated for 3pm CST.
