SAN ANGELO, Texas (February 11, 2018) – Texas A&M International Softball came up short in the final two games of the George & Ola McCorkle Challenge on Sunday afternoon at Mayer Field in San Angelo, Texas.

The Dustdevils return to action at the WT Invitational hosted by West Texas A&M at Schaeffer Park where they will face off against the nationally ranked Lady Buffs and UC-Colorado Springs. Links for live stats and video can be found at GoDustdevils.com at the softball schedule page.

Florida Tech 2 TAMIU 1
The Dustdevils scored first for the third time this weekend in the bottom of the second on two-out single to center by Robi Kami. Fellow senior Alyssa Acuna reached on a one out single to left field before stealing second to get into scoring position. The Mirada, Calif. product would come around to score on Kami's second RBI of the season.

Florida Tech responded with two runs of their own in the top of the third after a Xiarysee Emerenciana single and Mikayla Wessel walk put runners on first and second with one out. Ally Carver plated both runners at the next at-bat with a double down the right field line as the Panthers took a 2-1 lead.

Melanie Lint kept the Dustdevils within one after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the fifth. The bases were loaded with one out before the freshman got Victoria Szrom to line out before striking out Rebecca Wilson after falling behind in the count 3-1. Kami would double to lead off the bottom half of the inning for the Dustdevils but were unable to bring her home to tie the game.

Lint (0-3) was credited with the loss after giving up a career-low two runs on five hits and four walks and three strikeouts.

Angelo State 6 TAMIU 4
After a scoreless first, the Rambelles broke open the game in the bottom of the second thanks in large parts to Dustdevil errors. Taegan Kirk reached on an error to the start the inning moving over to second on a Mykayla Stroud single to left. The bases were loaded courtesy of a Taylor Fogle walk before Brooke Mangold plated the first run of the game when she was hit by a pitch. Following a fielder's choice that saw Mykayla Stroud thrown at home, Bailey Wallace cleared the bases with a double before advancing to third on an errant throw. Courtney Barnhill would record the final RBI of the inning with a single to left give ASU a 5-0 lead after two.

The Dustdevils chipped away at the lead in the top of the third after Giles reached base on a single to right. Pinch runner Sarah Sandoval came around to score an errant throw from the pitcher on a ball hit from Cassie Cannon. Melanie Gamboa's hit to second base forced another Rambelle error as Cannon came across to score making it 5-2.

ASU would add an insurance run in the fourth when Barnhill drove in her second RBI of the season on a ground out to Acuna. A Cannon one-out double in the top of the five ignited another Dustdevil runs as she came around to score on Gamboa's double to left field. Schofield joined in on the fun with a RBI of her own with a single to right. Foll0wing a pitching change, Lindsey Smith double to right putting runners on second and third with one out. Alyssa Acuna walked on four pitches to load the bases with two outs but ASU's All-American Brandy Marlett got out of the jam with TAMIU trailing 6-4.

The Dustdevils had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh after Schofield reached base on a lead-off single to right. Following a pair of fly outs, Acuna reached base for the third time with a single that put runners on first and second with two outs but Marlett came up big recording the final out of the game via strikeout as TAMIU comeback effort fell short for the second time in two days.
