A LOOK AT THE DUSTDEVILS
The Dustdevils are 9-20 overall and 6-5 in Heartland Conference play after going 3-2 last week including a three-game series sweep against Newman in Wichita, Kan. A pair of wins against St. Edward's on Tuesday would give TAMIU their first five-game win streak since March 2015.
Hitting
Maya Paul is hitting a team-high .346 after going 4-for-15 in five game last week. The San Antonio product has a team-high .400 on-base percentage and also ranks first on the team in steals (8). She has seven doubles driving in eight runs while scoring 10 times.
Cassie Cannon will look to regain her from earlier in the season as the senior has two hits in the last seven games. She is still hitting a career-high .333 and leading the team in hits (34), doubles (9) and slugging percentage (.471).
Maddison Schofield enters Tuesday's doubleheader with a three-game hit streak including a two-hit performance against the Jets. She has driven in a team-high 17 runs and ranks second on the team in runs scored (12), home runs (2) and slugging percentage (.444).
Samantha Edmiston is having one of the best stretches of her career as a Dustdevil hitting .429 with a home run and scoring three runs over the past three games. She has now homered twice in the past week after going nearly 100 at-bats without going yard.
Pitching
The Dustdevils pitching staff is full of confidence after allowing six runs (four earned) over 23.0 innings against NU last weekend.
Delainy Thompson (3-8) is finding her stride as the senior went a career-high nine innings allowing two runs (zero earned) on six hits while striking out six in the first game against NU before returning to pick up her first save of the season in the series finale.
Melanie Lint (4-6) picked up a pair of victories over the Jets going 9.2 innings in the circle allowing two runs (two earned) on six hits and six walks while striking out two.
A LOOK AT THE HILLTOPPERS
Meghan Mullin is in her second season at the helm of Hilltoppers softball after serving as an assistant from 2015-16. The former Nebraska Cornhusker has her team off to a 2-20 start and 2-9 in Heartland Conference play with both of the wins coming against Newman on March 4.
Hitting
Karolina Rodriguez is the top hitter for the Hilltoppers with a .345 average (19-for-55) with four doubles and two home runs for nine RBIs. She also ranks first in slugging percentage (.527) and on-base percentage (.429) having recorded a hit in seven straight games. Lauren Garza is finding her groove at the plate having recorded back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time this season last weekend against Rogers State. The Katy product is hitting .261 (12-of-46) on the season with two doubles and two home runs with five runs batted in. Sara Machado ranks third on the team with a .258 batting average but is hitless from the plate in the last four games after back-to-back two hit performances earlier in March.
Pitching
Keely Frazier (0-4) has a team-best 6.51 ERA in 10 appearances and four starts allowing 29 runs (20 earned ) on 43 hits in 27.2 innings in the circle. Reagan Carter (1-7) has made a team-high 15 appearances including eight starts striking out a team-high 33 batters in 52.0 innings of work. She set a season-high strikeouts against Lubbock Christian earlier in the season. Olivia Burdick (1-9) has allowed 57 runs (53 unearned) in 10 starts and 13 appearances.
THE SERIES
The Dustdevils trail St. Edward's 30-13 in the all-time series including 6-16 in games played in Austin. SEU has won four of the last five games including three straight. The Hilltoppers won a series-high eight straight from 2008-09. Dustdevils won four straight in the series in April 2011. TAMIU has been shutout 14 times in the series.
THE LAST MEETING
The Dustdevils mustered up five runs in a three-game sweep at the hands of the Hilltoppers last year on April 7-8 in Austin.
Delainy Thompson got saddled with loss in the series finale going six innings allowing one run (one earned) on six hits and five walks with one strikeout in the 1-0 defeat.
AROUND THE HEARTLAND
St. Mary's and Rogers State remain undefeated in Heartland Conference play but that will change as this weekend as they are scheduled for a three-game series in Claremore, Okla. The Rattler will face off against Lone Star Conference foes Angelo State and Texas Woman's before heading to The Sooner State. The Dustdevils moved up to third with a 6-5 record after sweeping Newman on the road. Oklahoma Christian sits fourth followed by Lubbock Christian, Newman and St. Edward's.

Delainy Thompson 92 appearances are the fourth-most in program history, two shy of passing

82 – Thompson ranks second in game started with 82. She is two short of tying Kyndall Reaves' (2011-14) program record.

Alyssa Acuna brought her career total to 28 which is three shy of moving up into a four-way tie for fifth.

Cassie Cannon ranks seventh in program history in stolen bases with 18. She has seven steals on the season, four short of her career-high 11 from last year.
