Delainy Thompson was unhittable in the first three innings striking out four of the nine batters that she faced. The Rattlers finally recorded their first hit of the game in the top of the fourth on a home run by Hannah Michel to take a 1-0 lead. They would add another run in the fifth following a leadoff double by reigning Heartland Conference hitter of the Week Abby Carney.
Â
Melanie Gamboa got the rally started in the bottom of the sixth for the Dustdevils with a two-out single up the middle.
Maddison Schofield followed that up with a single of her own. The bases were loaded when Michel couldn't quite handle
Maya Paul's slow roller to third base.
Alyssa Acuna's single down the left field line plated pinch runner
Amanda Hinojosa to make it a 2-1 game. At the next at-bat, Schofield came close to scoring on a wild pitch but a favorable bounce off the backstop allowed Marcy Vasquez to field it cleanly and end the inning. StMU would then put the game out of reach in the seventh scoring six runs on five hits and two errors.
Â
Thompson (2-8) was saddled with the loss after allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and one walk while striking out four betters.
Tori Carrion pitched 0.2 innings in relief allowing one run (zero earned) on one hit.

It was the Rattlers who scored first for the second time in as many games plating three runs on a single and double with two outs to lead 3-0. Paul's leadoff double in the bottom of the fifth was the first Dustdevil baserunner since the first inning. She would move over to third on single to center by
Alyssa Soneff before scoring on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Dustdevils had a chance to add another run but Soneff was stranded on third. StMU added an insurance run in the top half of the sixth with two outs on a single and double down the left field line
Â
Sara Caterson (2-4) allowed three runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
