WICHITA, Kan. (March 9, 2018) – Maddison Schofield and
Samantha Edmiston each recorded go-ahead home runs as Texas A&M International University softball swept Newman on Friday afternoon in Wichita, Kan. Schofield's home run in the top of the ninth lifted the Dustdevils to 3-2 victory in game one with Edmiston's homer in the seventh helping TAMIU take game two 4-3. The Dustdevils improve to 8-20 overall and 5-5 in Heartland Conference play while Newman falls to 4-21.

TAMIU 3, Newman 2 (9 innings)
After allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the first,
Delainy Thompson shut the Jets down until the Dustdevils bats got going in the fifth. Edmiston got the rally started with a leadoff walk in the fifth moving over to second on a ground out by
Cassie Cannon. She would come around to score on the next swing of the bat as
Melanie Gamboa roped a double to left. Following the second out of the inning,
Maya Paul picked up a double of her own to plate Gamboa tying the game at 2-all. Â

Schofield gave the Dustdevils a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth on her second home run of the season. The junior took the 1-0 pitch deep over the wall in left field marking the second consecutive game she has driven in the winning run against the Jets.

Thompson got herself out of some trouble in the bottom half of the inning recording two consecutive outs after runners have reached the corners with one-out. The Eastvale, Calif. product improved to 3-8 on the season after pitching a career-high nine innings allowing two runs (zero earned) on six hits with six strikeouts.

TAMIU 4, Newman 3
The Jets scored in the first inning for the second consecutive game but the Dustdevils responded with a run of their in the top of the second.
Sara Caterson reached base with two outs on a fielder's choice before coming around to score on
Brandi Giles double to right center at the next at-bat.

The teams exchanged home runs over the next three innings including Caterson's first career homer in the top of the fourth. The Dustdevils took their first lead of the game in the top of the fifth after Cannon lead the inning off with a ground-rule double to right. Just like they have done all season, Schofield doubled to left center to plate Cannon giving TAMIU a 3-2 lead.

The Jets would tie the game at 3-all in the bottom of the sixth but following a leadoff walk and a pair of sacrifice bunts. The Dustdevils went ahead in the top half of the seventh on Edmsiton's second home run of the season. The senior took the 1-1 pitch deep to left field giving the Dustdevils their seventh straight victory over the Jets.

Sara Caterson went 2.1 innings allowing two runs (two earned) on five hits before being relieved by Lint (3-6) who went 4.2 innings allowing one run (one earned) on three hits with one strikeout.
