LAREDO, Texas (April 14, 2018) - A three-run sixth inning lifted Texas A&M International University to a 3-1 victory and series sweep over St. Edward's on a Saturday afternoon in front of 301 fans at Dustdevil Field.

Brandi Giles all drove in a run as the Dustdevils won their program-best 17
thHeartland Conference game of the season.

The Dustdevils came close to opening the scoring in the bottom of the first after
Melanie Lint sat the Hilltoppers down in order in the top half of the inning.
Samantha Edmiston and
Maya Paul had back-to-back singles with one out but strong defensive play from the left side of the HIlltopper defense kept the game scoreless.
SEU put pressure on
Melanie Lint in the second and third innings by loading the bases but the freshman held her ground keeping her clean sheet intact. Following an uneventful fourth inning, the Hilltoppers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth on Sara Machado's two-out single up the middle.
Maya Paul led off the bottom of the sixth with her third single of the game igniting a Dustdevil rally.
Maddison Schofield single up the middle in the next at-bat followed by
Lindsey Smith's hard hit double off the wall in left center to plate Paul and tie the game.
Alyssa Acuna would keep the inning going with a one-out double off the wall in right center to give the Dustdevils a 2-1 lead.
Brandi Giles would give the home team an insurance run with a two-out single to the right side to plate
Alyssa Soneff.
The Hilltoppers didn't go down without a fight in the top of the seventh with Karolina Rodriguez reaching base on an error. Sami Williams walked on the next at-bat to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Delainy Thompson hunkered down and got Lauren Garza t hit into a 6-4-3 double play before striking out Machado to end the game.
Thompson (9-12) was credited with the win in her 102
ndcareer appearance going 2 2-3 allowing one hit and two walk with three strikeouts. Lint went 4 1-3 allowing one run (one earned) on six hits and one walk.
