Sara Caterson held the powerful Lubbock Christian lineup to three hits as Texas A&M International University defeated the Lady Chaps 8-2 on Thursday evening at Heartland Conference Softball Championships in San Antonio.
Samantha Edmiston powered the offense going 2 for 3 from the plate with a home run while driving in three runs while
Cassie Cannon also chipped three hits. <br />

<strong>TAMIU 8, Lubbock Christian 2</strong><br />
Cannon led the game off with a single up the middle before moving over to second on a sacrifice bunt from Edmiston.
Maya Paul would bring the senior home at the next at-bat with a hard hit single to third base to give TAMIU a 1-0 lead. The Lady Chaps loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the second but
Sara Caterson got Megan Darling to ground out to end the threat.<br />

Edmiston stretched the Dustdevils lead to 3-0 in the top of the third with a two-run home run. Cannon singled for the second time of the game to lead off the inning before Edmiston connected on her third home run of the season. They would add another run in the inning when Paul came around to score on
Lindsey Smith's groundout. LCU got finally got to Caterson in the bottom half of the inning with a sac fly from Morgan Dufour after loading the bases for the second straight inning.<br />

Edmiston would bring her RBI total to three on the evening with a two out single up the middle to score
Melanie Gamboa.
Maddison Schofield's home run in the top of the fifth made it 6-1 in favor of the Dustdevils after the junior took the 3-2 offering just over the left field fence. After allowing a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-2,
Alyssa Acuna and
Brandi Giles both drove in runs in the seventh to stretch the lead to six runs. <br />
<br />
Caterson (3-5) went the distance for the second time this season allowing two runs (zero earned) on three hits and seven walks while striking out four. In her two career starts at the conference championships, the junior hasn't allowed an earned run over 14 innings in the circle. <br />
