Thompson Throws First No-Hitter in Program History on Tuesday Against Lubbock Christian

LAREDO, Texas (March 27, 2018) – Delainy Thompson threw the first no-hitter in Texas A&M International University softball history on Tuesday afternoon in a 1-0 victory over Lubbock Christian. After dropping the first game 6-0, the senior responded by holding the Lady Chaps hitless while only allowing one walk for her school record eighth career shutout. The Dustdevils are now 14-25 overall and 11-10 in Heartland Conference play.

The Dustdevils get the weekend off before heading to Stephenville on Tuesday, April 3, for a doubleheader against #25 Tarleton State. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Links for live stats and video can be found on the softball schedule page at GoDustdevils.com.

Lubbock Christian 6, TAMIU 0
The Lady Chaps jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on a three-run home run by Morgan Dufour. The Dustdevils came close to cutting into the lead in the bottom of the second following a leadoff double to center field by Maya Paul. A Sumer Woodson walk put runners on first and second with no outs but LCU's Monique Francois recorded three straight outs to end the threat.

Cassie Cannon extended her hit streak to three games with a one out single in the bottom of the third. She advanced to second on her 10th stolen base of the season with one out. After a walk to Maddison Schofield to put two runners on for the second straight inning, Francois got a ground out to shortstop to end the inning. The Lady Chaps added two more runs in the top of the fifth on an one out single up the middle by Haley Hardison before adding another in the seventh.

Lint (6-8) went 6.2 innings in the circle allowing six runs (six earned) on nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Tori Carrion pitched 0.1 innings in relief getting the only batter she faced to ground out to short.

TAMIU 1, Lubbock Christian 0
The Lady Chaps lone base runner reached base in the top of the first with a one-out walk by Linzi Clemmer. The Dustdevils put the leadoff batter on-base in the second, third and fourth inning but were unable to generate any runs.

TAMIU  finally got its breakthrough in the bottom of the sixth on a two-out double down the left field line by Sara Caterson to give them a 1-0 lead. Melanie Gamboa earned a leadoff walk before advancing to second on an infield single by Maddison Schofield. Pinch runner Krystal Perez used her speed to advance to third on a long foul out to left by Robi Kami putting runners on second and third with one out. After a failed hit and run that saw Perez thrown out at home, Caterson redeemed herself with a hard hit ball to plate Schofield and give TAMIU its first lead of the doubleheader.

Delainy Thompson (6-10) had no problems with the heart of LCU's lineup to record the final three outs of the game to become the first Dustdevil to throw a no-hitter. After allowing the walk to Clemer, the senior retired 20 straight Lady Chaps en route to her program-best eighth career shutout.
