TAMIU 2, Rogers State 1 (8 innings)
The Dustdevils came within inches of scoring in the top of the first after
Maya Paul was hit by a pitch with two outs. The freshman would put herself in scoring position stealing her 16
thbase of the season on the first pitch of the next at-bat.
Maddison Schofield's softly hit single to third gave Paul a chance to score but she was thrown out at home.
The Hillcats struck first in the top of the third following a leadoff single and stolen base by Katelyn Gamble. She would come around to score on Merissa Smith's single to right field making it 1-0. The visitors threatened to extend their lead in the following inning after consecutive walks to load the bases with two outs. Following a pitching change,
Melanie Lint struck out Katy Taylor on five pitches to keep the Dustdevils within one. TAMIU would tie the game at 1-all in the bottom half of the inning on a
Maddison Schofield home run to centerfield on Alex Brake's 2-0 offering.
The game would head to extras with
Samantha Edmiston hitting a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth but it all started with a leadoff single by
Brandi Giles. The senior singled to left field before being replaced by pinch runner
Robi Kami. A sacrifice bunt from
Melanie Gamboa would move Kami over to scoring position with one out. Following a single to left by
Cassie Cannon to put runners on the corners, Edmiston took the first pitch she saw back up the middle to give coach Libby his 225
thcareer victory.
Melanie Lint (7-8) earned the win going 4 1-3 innings in relief not allowing a hit with two walks and three strikeouts.
Sara Caterson pitched well in the start allowing one run (one earned) on four hits and three walks om 3 2-3 innings.
TAMIU 3, Rogers State (11 innings)
Game two was a good ol' fashioned pitchers' duel until Schofield connected on her second home run in as many games in the bottom of the fourth to give the Dustdevils a 1-0 lead. The Hillcats had no answer for
Delainy Thompson until the sixth when they strung together three hits to take a 2-1 lead.
Alyssa Acuna got the rally started in the bottom of the seventh when the senior sent the first pitch of the at-bat to left field for a one out single.
Amanda Hinojosa would pinch runner for Acuna and advance to second on a sac bunt from Kami.
Brandi Giles' blooper into right field with two outs dropped between two HIllcats to plate Hinojosa tying the game at 2-2.
The Hillcats looked ready to score the first runs of extra innings in the top of the 11
thfollowing a Smith single and a walk from Danelle Day with one out. But much like she has done all year, Thompson got herself out of the jam getting Allie McFetridge to ground into a 6-4-3 double play on the first pitch of the at-bat to end the threat. Schofield would win it for the Dustdevils in the bottom half of the inning with her third home run of the doubleheader taking a 3-2 pitch opposite field sending the fans at Dustdevil Field into a frenzy as the Dustdevils improved to 3-3 in extra-innings games.
Thompson (7-11) went the full 11 innings allowing two runs (two earned ) on five hits and three walks while striking out four. She becomes the first pitcher in program history to throw over 10 innings in a single game.
