Perez recorded a pair of top-20 finishes as a sophomore in 2017 highlighted by a eighth place finish as the Islander Splash running 21:25.6 for four-miles. He also finished 16
th at the UIW Invitational running a personal best 27:30.4 over 8,000-meters. He was the third finisher for TAMIU at the Heartland Conference Championships running 28:16.8 for 8K. He started the season with a 48
th place finish at the Norry Hersey Rice Invite.
2016:
Perez was the top finisher for the Dustdevils as a freshman at the Heartland Conference Cross Country Championships where he was 33
rd in a time of 26:52.0. He recorded a Top-10 finish at the Islander Splash where was ninth covering the 8,000-meter course in 27:55.8. He finished 55
th at the 7
th Annual Roadrunner Invitational hosted by Metro State at Washington Park in Denver, Colo. He opened his collegiate career with a 114
th place finish at the Rice Invitational.
High School: United South High School (Class of 2016)
Perez ran cross country all (4) years as he captained his team as well. He was part of the District Championship Team and earned All-City Team as he was also named Team MVP.
Personal: Ulises Perez is the son of Olga and Marco Perez. He is joined by his (3) siblings: Lidia, Marco, and Darien. Perez chose TAMIU becuase he was given the opportunity to pursue her degree all while continuing her cross country career. His most inspirational figure is Jaco Pastorius, an American jass musician and composer. His future aspiration is to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science. His a favorite athlete is Mohamed Farah, a long distance runner who competes with the British Olympic Team. In his spare time, Perez enjoys playing his bass guitar and ukelele.
