LAREDO, Texas (April 22, 2018)Â -Â Texas A&M International University finished its 12-game home stand on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep over No. 11 West Texas A&M in front of 112 fans at Dustdevil Field.
Delainy Thompson pitched her ninth career complete game shutout in the 8-0 victory in game one with
Cassie Cannon driving in two runs in a 4-2 win in game two.Â

TAMIU 8, WT 0 (5 innings)
The Dustdevils opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first on two hits and a WT error.
Samantha Edmiston singled through the left side followed by a double to left by
Maya Paul to put two runners on with one out.
Maddison Schofield's grounder went straight to Suka Van Gurp who chose to go home but overthrew Shanna McBroom resulting in a pair of runs coming across the plate. Â

A six-run fourth inning busted the game wide open for the Dustdevils with all runs coming with two outs.
Lindsey Smith leadoff with a single up the middle before advancing to second base on a steal. Brandi Files reached for the first time when she was hit by a pitch.  Following the second out of the inning,
Melanie Gamboa's blooper down the right field plated two to extend the lead to 4-0.
Cassie Cannon reached base for the first time of the game with a single of her own followed a bases clearing double from
Samantha Edmiston. Paul and Smith both drove in a run each to make it 8-0 after four complete.Â

Thompson didn't allowed the Lady Buffs to plate a run in the top half of the fifth as the Dustdevils handed WT their first five inning run-rule loss since April 2013. She (10-13) pitched a complete game three hit shutout in 92
ndcareer start at TAMIU. The shutout was the ninth of her career and third of the season. Â

TAMIU 4, WT 2
The Lady Buffs had runners in scoring position in the first and second innings but were unable to get anyone across the plate as we headed to the top of the third scoreless. Cannon's sacrifice fly to center in the bottom of the third plated
Amanda Hinojosa to break the deadlock making it 1-0 in favor of TAMIU. WT responded in the top of fourth with a sac fly of their own to tie it at 1-all.

The Dusdeviles retook the lead in the bottom half of the fourth on a two-out single down the right field line by
Alyssa Acuna. But like they had done the inning prior, the visitor's tied it at 2-all in the fifth with one swing of the bat. Kylie Moore hit the only home run of the day with a towering shot over the fence in right center.Â

The Dustdevil would respond with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead. Gamboa reached base on an error before pinch runner
Krystal Perez advanced to second on a sac bunt from
Robi Kami. Cannon continued her hot streak at the plate with a double to right field to plate Perez. Edmiston followed that up with her first triple of the season to plate Cannon to give TAMIU a 4-2 lead.Â

WT wouldn't go down without a fight as they had the tying run on base with one out but
Sara Caterson got Stevie McLemore to strike out looking and Allie Smith to fly out to first to end the game.Â

Melanie Lint (11-8) went 6 1-3 innings allowing two runs (two earned) on five hits and seven walks. Caterson picked up her first career saving going 2-3 inning allowing one hit and one strikeout.Â
